Where Have you Lost Him: Week 2

Where have you lost Him? Bear with this long quote, and it may continue to bless you for years.

"Tell me where you lost the company of Christ, and I will tell you the most likely place to find Him. Have you lost Christ in the closet by restraining prayer? Then it is there you must seek and find Him Did you lose Christ by sin? You will find Christ in no other way but by the giving up of the sin, and seeking by the Holy Spirit to mortify the member in which the lust doth dwell. Did you lose Christ by neglecting the Scriptures? You must find Christ in the Scriptures."
-Charles Spurgeon, January 19, Morning and Evening

If you're like every other Christian, communion with Christ must be continually sought after. Our flesh and our enemy will do anything to pull us away from His presence. Often, we are left feeling dull, confused, and numb in our faith. Asking yourself the question, "Where have you lost Him?" may be the missing link...

In prayer, in sin, in Scripture? Where have you lost closeness with our Savior? Where have you allowed subtle laziness to seep into your relationship with Christ?

I'm guessing there is one of the these three that pricks you more firmly than the others. Take a deep breath, and submit that area to Him (James 4), asking what steps should be taken next. The Lord is so gracious, and He will show you a practical way; after all, He wants you to be close to Him. Assuming that He would be angry and against you at this point would be painfully wrong.

If you lost Him in the closet (generally where I lose Him), asking Him to give you an awareness of His presence throughout the day is always a good start (and not too overwhelming). Then, carve-out time to pray...?

If you lost Him in sin, confession to another person is powerful. Just last night, in our James study, we were talking about the power of saying words out loud. Even your own, audible speech keeps you accountable, in an odd way! Then, what next...?

If you lost Him in scripture, I believe the Lord loves it when we ask Him for a craving for His Word! It would be like your little child telling you that he or she wanted to learn how to read after many, many days of dragging through lessons. Then, what would He have for you next...?
